Ray K. Metzker - Photographic Journey
In these series of images that all focus on negative space. Negative space is very important when talking about overall space in photography as this is when you can see most of the empty and open spaces in the pictures.

9 TO 5 SERIES:
This monochromatic drawing is the movements of his mouse during the course of a regular workday. It is as much a self-portrait as it is a landscape charting a day’s work. I really like this group of images as they are something I have never quite seen and it also relates to my theme of negative space which is also helpful. I would also like to know the artist's inspiration for these series of photographs as it is a very random thing to do and was probably done by accident while working on multiple pieces. The process of this piece goes like this, the artist has connected the mouse to a track pad and then worked on an unknown piece of work during the making, I have no idea wether these images were intentional in any way but regardless, they are effective.
Keld Helmer-Petersen: Black Light
Keld Helmer-Petersens' 'Black Light' book of negative space that explores negative space of almost anything object related.
Helmer-Petersen was a Danish photographer who was inspired by Albert Renger-Patzsch, the experiments at The Bauhaus in Germany and by Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind at the Art Institute of Chicago. He achieved fame for his colour photographs but he also published several books of black and white images that explore dramatic contrasts of tone. In some, we are only presented with images that are black and white. All mid tones have been removed. He created and found these images, using both cameras and flat bed scanners to achieve the effects he was looking for. These books are beautifully designed and encourage us to consider the space around the image and the accompanying text as integral to the meaning of the work.
Examination prep.
This is the group of images i will be using in my exam.
They will each be turned into images only showing the negative space of them, and will be put onto a collage board.
